You are living away from home for the first time [not counting the Halls that you are probably in now] but in your second University year you will be in charge of your own house, in charge of your own destiny and dreams… and in charge of your own safety. I make the houses as secure as possible and have won the Leeds University Union Safest House Award.
All houses have HMO Licences and comply with the Unipol Code, and beyond. You will only have ONE key which cleverly operates the security gates, the top and bottom locks on the front and back doors and just your bedroom [not the other bedroom doors!]. These special security keys can only be cut by Sue's locksmith.
Q: What if I lose my key and can’t get in to my house?
A: Phone Sue. If one of my dedicated key holders isn't nearby, then no matter - Sue will arrange for a uniformed emergency response key holder to be there within half-an-hour [24-hour service] NB there is an extra charge for this service, though. If a dedicated key holder is nearby then there's no charge!
Q: HOW DO I GET A NEW KEY?
A: Phone Sue, she’ll send one.
Q: Do we have fire doors in the house and can we wedge them open?
A: Yes there are fire doors and NO you can't wedge them open because it's illegal BUT there are special "intelligent fire door hold-open devices" on the lounge and kitchen doors that listen for the alarm and slam the doors shut. It also slams the door shut when it hears the hoover! Oh, and it sometimes self-tests so don’t think you have a ghost in the house.
Q: I don't always want to lock my bedroom door when I'm in the house but how can I keep my things private and safe?
A: Operative word was "safe" ~ you'll find one in your wardrobe. Choose your own code; just like a hotel safe! And it's big enough for a 16" laptop!
