Role of a funeral director
The main role of a funeral director is to lead and make arrangements for funerals, burials and cremations. They also work with bereaved families, lending their support, assisting with paperwork and helping them to plan a thoughtful, personal tribute to the memory of their loved one.
Following the initial contact with a client, our first responsibility is to collect details from the friends or relatives of the deceased. We will then arrange for the deceased to be taken to our chapel of rest prior to the funeral. Following this, we will schedule an appointment with the family at our offices or arrange to visit them at their home.
What happens at our offices
During the visit to our offices, we may discuss the following:
- The proposed date and venue for the service
- Whether a religious or secular service is required
- Whether a cremation or traditional burial is required
- Choice of casket
- Clothing requests for the deceased
- Obituary arrangements
- Floral requirements and/or charity donations
- Transportation (i.e. hearse, limousine, etc.)
- Memorial options
The above are standard expectations, but if you have any specific requests for your loved one, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate your wishes.
