Theory Test
Theory Test Help in Penmaenmawr, Conwy, and Bangor
The theory test starts with a series of 50 multiple choice questions and is followed by a three-minute break before the hazard perception element starts. Your hazard perception test will consist of 14 video clips which will feature various road scenes with developing hazards involving both vehicles and pedestrians.
What theory questions will I be asked?
Your test will cover a range of topics including:
- Driver attitude
- Traffic signs
- The effects of alcohol, drugs and fatigue
- Environmental aspects of vehicles.
The majority of the questions will require one answer to be selected though some may ask for up to 4 of a possible 6 answers. The pass mark for the theory test will be 43 correct answers out of 50
What happens during the Hazard Perception test?
Thirteen clips will contain one hazard and one will contain two. Each hazard has a marking window and you will be scored appropriately for your reactions if you respond during that window. Clicking outside of that window will score you no points and excessive clicking can invalidate the question altogether. You can score between 1-5 points depending on how quickly you react to a developing hazard – i.e. an event that causes you to change speed, direction or stop.
Your awareness improves as you gain experience of driving but this section of your theory test helps to ensure that you are careful from the start.
What is the best way to practice for this test?
Your driving lessons will help to consolidate your theory and hazard perception knowledge. Outside of your driving lessons, there are various ways to revise. Use your Highway Code to wise up on the rules of the road, test yourself using software developed by the DSA (available in high street bookstores/online) or use various resources on the Internet.
