Practical Test
Learn Safe Driving for Life with Rob Griffiths - Experienced Driving Instructor in Bangor, Penmaenmawr & Conwy
Practical Test
This 40-minute test requires you to demonstrate the skills you have developed in your lessons. You will have learned a series of reverse manoeuvres, you need to perform one of these and possibly an emergency stop.
Before the test, you will be asked two Show Me Tell Me questions and, during the practical, will be expected to drive without any serious or dangerous faults. Any minor driving faults will be recorded and you are allowed a maximum of 15 minors.
Independent Driving
Independent driving is an integral part of the test as it measures your ability to drive unassisted and demonstrates how confident you are. You will drive on your own without assistance from the examiner. You will be given a set of three directions i.e.
- Take the next left
- 3rd right
- 2nd left
It may be that you are given a specific destination – a certain train station, or you could be asked to follow signs for a particular place. Any location you are given will be signposted.
You may be given a combination of the above to follow i.e. next right, 2nd left, and follow the signs to the railway station.
When you have completed each set of directions, you will be given a new set to follow.
Once you have made a choice as to which direction you need to take, the worst thing you can do is change your mind. Any rash decisions could compromise the safety of your vehicle and those of others.
