Want to treat that special person to something a little different this Valentine's Day? What could be better than whisking him or her away for a romantic few days of sun, sea, sand and quality time together?!

We're suckers for a bit of romance, so take a look at how we think you could be spending the perfect Valentine's Day with your other half.

With an average of 7 hours of sunshine a day through February, and high temperatures of around 21°C, Lanzarote is already one of the best places to visit throughout the winter months. February is also one of the quieter months on the Island, which makes it perfect for that romantic getaway. However, don't fear, just because it's a quieter time that doesn't mean that there aren't plenty of things you can do to make sure you and your loved one can have a Valentine's Day to remember.

The best way to really make the most out of a romantic break in Lanzarote is to hire a car; this gives you the opportunity to see more, including some of the hidden gems of the Island.

You could spend an afternoon in the village of Orzola – a peaceful fishing village in the north of Lanzarote; taking a stroll around the beautiful harbour which attracts an array of visitors who like to sit and relax, taking in the pretty scenery whilst enjoying good food in the village's famous seafood restaurants.

Following this, take a short drive down to Punta Mujeres along the coast - the drive through the Island's countryside with blue skies and sea views can be romantic in itself. Here, you will find some of the most beautiful beaches. The first and most impressive beach you will come to whilst driving out of Orzola is a must-see! This is called Charca de La Novia and is a stunning lava-formed lagoon beach just on the coast of the village of Orzola.

Once you reach Punta Mujeres, you will come to Jameos Del Agua; which has been described as a “magical place”. Here, you can take a tour of the open-top caves and see some of the breath-taking architecture by Lanzarote's very own artist; Cesar Manrique.

Built within the caves is Restaurante Jameos del Agua – the perfect spot for a romantic meal with stunning views and good food; then afterwards you can enjoy a drink by the Jameos legendary pool – it doesn't get more romantic than that!

Alternatively, if you want something a bit more personal, why not plan a romantic picnic for 2 on one of the Island's white sand beaches. Bit of an Art Lover?

For the art lovers, there is so much to see that we are sure you will love (even if you're not a big lover of art yourself – these are still worth a visit):

Cesar Manrique's Foundation in Tahiche – This is situated in the studio-home where the artist himself lived and showcases some of the work that is said to best represent the artist's work; which was usually inspired by the Island's volcanos, nature and culture.

Modern Art Museum in Castillo de San Jose – The museum is situated in Castille de San Jose's old military fort in the port of Arrecife, and exhibits the works of modern artists. It boasts a collection of geometric, formal and figurative abstraction as well as characteristics of 18th century Lanzarote.

Museo Atlantico Lanzarote – The Island has recently opened Europe's first underwater museum. Created by artist Jason deCaires Taylor, it currently consists of six parts containing human sculptures, the famous Raft of Lampedusa, several hybrid sculptures illustrating the merge between nature and humanity. Visiting the museum is a perfect way to add a bit of adventure to your trip, gain a few diving/snorkelling tips and get to see Europe's first underwater creations.

If you and your partner like a bit more excitement from a getaway, then there are always things to do for the adventure / sports lovers out there...

Take surf lessons at Famara beach – Lanzarote is one of Europe's top spots for surfing; holding the annual International Quemao Class surf competition in La Santa. Costanoroeste is Surf and Kiteboarding School in Famara, so if you think your partner would love to try something different this Valentine's, why not treat them to a fun-filled week of learning how to surf or kiteboard?! For the sports lover, we're sure this wouldn't go a miss!

To add a bit of romance to an active break on the Island, you can always treat your loved one to a Michelin star meal at El Risco, situated right on the sea-front in Famara. If you make a reservation, they can seat you outside – right on the beach!

You could also take a tour of the Timanfaya National Park – This is Lanzarote's most popular attraction, and for good reason! Hike up to the top of the volcano where you can see incredible views of the black volcanic lava fields that surround it, or dine at the El Diablo restaurant (which was also designed by Cesar Manrique), where you can take in exquisite panoramic views of the Island.
