Lake District Tours in Winter
The winter season brings about many changes here in the Lake District. Visitors arriving in the wintertime will notice the crisp, clear air and will see the region's magnificent scenery in a whole different light. The towns and villages are far quieter than in the milder months, but certainly no less beautiful!
If you're planning a winter getaway in the Lake District, you'll want to see as much as you can during your stay. You'll be pleased to hear that even during the cold season, there are plenty of fun, scenic and educational tours available to suit every area of interest. To help you plan the itinerary for your trip, here are a few winter tours which we think you'll enjoy:
Yellow Cruise from Bowness to Lakeside with Windemere Lake Cruises
The Yellow Cruise takes visitors from Bowness to Lakeside aboard the one of the Lake's Steamers. On your journey you'll see splendid period homes, lovely gardens and vast woodlands – all through the unique lens of winter! Commentary will be provided by your guide, expounding the rich history of Windemere and the surrounding attractions.
You can pick up an adult ticket for £10.80 or a family ticket (for two adults and up to three children) for just £30. Well behaved dogs and children under five can board free!

Other highlights include stops at Newlands Valley and Grasmere village, which is the birthplace of William Wordsworth and also world-renowned for its gingerbread.
Prices start from £30 per day for adults and £25 for children. Flooding update: The flooding which has occurred in recent weeks has meant that certain key routes and transport links have been closed. This is due to erosion, landslides and washed-away bridges. On many other roads, bridges have been closed, causing diversions to be implemented. Certain bridges are being inspected by surveyors in the interest of safety.
