Whilst the process of arranging a funeral is difficult and painful, we try our very best to do everything we can to smooth the way. As well as arranging the service, there are a few important steps you need to take to put the affairs of your loved one in order.
With our experience, we are able to advise you on the following duties which will help you in making sure that everything is organised.
Register a death
You may register the death if you fall under the following:
- You are a relative
- You found the body
- You’re making the funeral arrangements
The death must be registered at the office in the area where the person died. You will need the person’s:
- full name (including maiden name)
- date and place of birth
- occupation
- last address
You also need the full name, date of birth and occupation of a surviving spouse.
The registrar will give you:
- Certificate for Burial or Cremation
- Certificate of Registration of Death

Informing the Government
You need to inform:
- HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC)
- National Insurance (NI) contributions office
- Child Benefit office
- Tax Credit office
- DVLA
- The local council
- Banks and other financial organisations
- The Post Office
