Any driver who has passed their practical test is eligible to take a Pass Plus course to further develop their skills. Pass Plus is a practical driving course aimed predominantly at those who have passed their test within the last 12 months.
Once you become a fully licensed driver, the prospect of driving without supervision can be daunting. There are also certain aspects of driving that are not covered during the beginner lessons, such as motorway driving, so, it's only natural to feel a little out of your depth the first few times you drive alone!
However, after completing a Pass Plus course, you should feel much more confident behind the wheel. It's especially worth considering Pass Plus if you are a brand new driver, as many insurers offer discounts to those who complete the course. Check with your insurer to find out if you'd be eligible.
Pass Plus comprises six modules which are taken over a minimum of six hours. The course covers the following aspects of driving:
•Urban driving
•Rural roads
•Dual carriageways
•Safe driving in varying weather conditions
•Night driving
•Motorway driving
In the most cases, the entire course will be practically based, although you may need to complete theory based alternatives for certain modules should the weather be unsuitable for driving. You won't need to take a test for the Pass Plus course; you simply need to meet the required standard for each module.
