Introduction to the Breed

Originating in Hungary, the Vizsla has, for centuries been a sporting (hunting fowl and game) dog. This continues but they are now also considered a loyal household companion and family dog. This is purely down to their demonstrably affectionate and sensitive manner but they are also fearless and possess a well developed protective instinct.

The Vizsla is a medium sized short-coated dog of distinguished appearance. They are robust but lightly built, are lean dogs and have defined muscles. Their beautiful coat can be described as copper, russet gold or dark sandy gold.

The temperament of a Vizsla is one of very high energy and they do need a LOT of exercise! They are gentle mannered, loyal, caring and highly affectionate and form close bonds with their owners, children and even strangers.
