Ideal to create flexible irrigation tubing, polyethene tubing is a malleable material and perfect to use in colder climates.

The poly pipe can simply be replaced in a very short amount of time and when it comes to unmovable objects, not to worry, thanks to its flexibility, it can easily curve around and make any complex turns.

Unlike other types of plastic piping, poly pipe fittings do not require glue to seal the pieces together. In this case, two specially designed types of poly pipe fittings are connected together through pressure using friction.

How to install poly pipe fittings

There are two types of poly pipes; threaded and barbed. The only difference when it comes to installation is that the threaded poly pipe fittings can be turned while applying pressure whilst the barbed fittings can be pushed into place without having to turn them.

Tools and materials required to carry out the poly pipe fittings installation:

  • poly pipe fittings
  • a knife
  • screwdriver
  • hose clamp
  • a hair dryer or other heat source
  • water based lubricant

Step 1: Cut the needed length of the poly pipe with a sharp knife and ensure that the cut is straight. Fit a hose clamp over the end of the poly pipe and make sure it has the same size as the tubing.

Step 2: Use the water based lubricant and dip the end of the poly pipe fitting. Hold the lubricated part in your strongest hand and the cut piece of tubing in your other hand. Use your strength to push the poly pipe fitting into the end of the tubings as you twist the poly pipe fitting back and forth.

Step 3: Push the hose clamp toward the fitting until the nearest end to the fitting is 0.6cm from the end of the tubing. Turn the clamp screw clockwise using a screwdriver to lock the poly pipe fitting into place.
