How Kitchens have changed

Kitchens are the product of decades of innovation and even if many of us can’t really realise it, over the last five decades, kitchens have definitely changed in ways that we’ve never expected. If initially, this has been just a room with a table where we normally serve the meals of the day, nowadays, the modern kitchen is the ideal area for family and friends to gather and socialise.

Whilst everything started with a simple kitchen, a stove and a table, we’re now at the point when we can have state of the art kitchens, with internet, TV, special features and bespoke designs.

If previously the kitchens were hidden away in the back of the home, they’re now specially fitted in the central area of the home, for the owners and guests to chat, eat, socialise and cook.

Here’s how the kitchens changed and evolved throughout the years

Once upon a time when the kitchens were small areas and mostly a workplace for servants, however, due to industrialisation and the evolution of the middle class, the kitchens gradually grew to become a wonderful family space. With time, this has had an impact on the new builds and soon appliances such as refrigerators became very popular.

Kitchens in the ‘60s

During the ‘60, we begin to notice how kitchens begin to evolve. Because women started to get day jobs and at the same time started to get noticed by the society, the introduction of time-saving appliances started, and with it, the dishwashers and disposals were extremely useful.

When it comes to wooden counters and cabinets, these were fitted in every possible colour.

Kitchens in the ‘80s

This is the year when kitchens started to progress and make slow changes towards the modern kitchen that we have today. The friends and family area became more and more popular and the size of the kitchen increased. The appliances used in the 1980’s kitchens were mostly black and white and the atmosphere quickly became more conservative.

Kitchens in the 2000s

Although “the 90s kitchens actually paved the way for future kitchens”, the kitchens in the 2000s became more practical, stylish and fashionable. With a considerable increase in size, the kitchens allowed people to cook together and entertain each other at the same time.

Fitting a modern kitchen, became a must-have for many homes, and stainless steel, slate and concrete made their way into the ideal ambience.

Wooden and floors replaced the linoleum floors whilst providing a modern feel and a very improved appearance.

Kitchens in the 2010s

The kitchens we use today is a modern, innovative and stylish area, perfect for family meetings, cooking time and parties. The addition of TV’s, other gadgets and comfortable furniture items is a must  if you want to transform your kitchen into a relaxing and entertaining space.
